Effect of dissociation temperature of bonds on chemical reactions was studied for germanium and silicon compounds by deposition of one compound on the surface of wafer made from another compound.6 It was found that it was possible to replace one metal in a wafer for another by performing controlled annealing at bond dissociation temperature.6 For example, by depositing Si atoms onto a thin Ge oxynitride film and performing controlled annealing, stepwise breakage of Ge-O and Ge-N bonds and formation of Si-O and Si-N bonds took place at around 360°C and 500°C, respectively.6, Figure 4.6 shows results of experiments made with glass nanomaching using laser femtopulses.7 The wavelength of the laser was 527 nm but pulses had very high energy at 7.5 nJ.7 Reproducibility of hole size is a striking feature of this experiment, considering that glass is a heterogeneous material.7 Raised areas are formed by deposition of material extruded from the holes.7.
